Over half (51%) of social workers, and a third of police officers (36%) report feeling 'powerless' to intervene in suspected cases of child neglect, according to a landmark report by children's charity, Action for Children.

A quarter of child runaways have been the victim of a harmful or dangerous experience, reveals new research from The Children’s Society.

Recent figures released by the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (Cafcass) have shown that the Service received 841 care applications during October 2011.

The Department for Education has released statistics showing a 2% increase in the number of children in care, combined with a 5% decrease in the number of children who are adopted.
