Brits are showing caution with their finances when they decide to move in with a new partner, research from online bank first direct reveals. The findings show that for the majority, financial commitment is not on the agenda with couples keeping their distance in their money and property arrangements.

Recent research has shown that over a third of parents are reluctant to leave an inheritance to their married children because they don't want their child's spouse to benefit from the gift in the event that the couple divorce.

Should a couple be able to make a firm agreement – before they get married or enter a civil partnership – about what should happen to their property if their relationship ends? Or should the law remain as it stands, that the courts can decide if their agreement is enforceable?
