Divorce settlement compensates for housework

A woman in Spain has been awarded over $150,000 in a divorce settlement in recognition of her work looking after the couple's home and child during their marriage, reports UPI.

The Spanish Supreme Court ruled that although the the wife had never worked outside the home, she had still contributed to the 15 year marriage by doing all the housework and child care. The judge looked at what a housekeeper could expect to earn a month, and used this information to calculate the wife's share of assets at the end of the marriage.
